Crochet Jolly Snowman Stocking

Updated: Dec 1, 2020

'Tis the season for Christmas crocheting. A friend of mine asked if I could make her mom a snowman Christmas stocking, of course I excepted the challenge. "Short and sweet" is my motto...However, it must be appealing to the eye. This is a quick, easy, and fun pattern which can be whipped up in time for the holiday season. Here are the two stockings I made, each took me about a day to complete. Hope you all enjoy the pattern and would love to see your finished products. Follow me Mainely Hooked on Facebook and Instagram and tag me in your post. Happy Crocheting!

Materials:

H size crochet hook

G size crochet hook

Tapestry needle

Yarn: Any medium worsted weight yarn in white, green, red, orange for nose, and black for the snowman’s smile. (I have been loving Yarn Bee Soft & Sleek but did make the green one using Loops & Threads Impeccable). Actually the Loops and Threads made a better shape and is more durable than the Yarn bee. I love Yarn Bee because it is super soft, however, it is not as durable.

Here is a video tutorial on how to make the heel. Please know I am not great with videography, I will have to learn how to become better at this.

*In the video I say "continue to decrease until you have 12 stitches, that is wrong I should of said 14* you are decreasing by 4 stitches every round. Thank you to the followers who have given such great feed back.

  • Continue to decrease on each round until you have 14 stitches left. Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew heel. Use a running stitch around the remaining stitches, pull tight, tie and knot, weave in end.

Nose: with orange yarn and a G hook

Ch 7

Row 1: SC in 2nd Ch from hook and across, Ch 1, turn (6 SC)

Row 2: SC2TG, 2 SC, SC2TG, Ch 1, turn (4 SC)

Row 3 SC across, Ch 1, turn (4 SC)

Row 4: SC2TG, SC2TG, Ch 1, turn (2 SC)

Row 5: SC across, Ch 1, turn (2 SC)

Row 6: SC2TG, Ch 1, turn (1 SC)

Row 7: 1 SC

Slip Stitch around, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing on the stocking.

Scarf: with green yarn and G hook

Ch 91, turn, SC in 2nd Ch from hook then across, fasten off. I made tassels for each end of the scarf. Then I weaved under 4 DCs and over 2 DCs around round 29. Tie the scarf in a bow on the side of the stocking as pictured.

To make the hanger:

In the center of the back of the stocking I attached 2 stands of yarn, Ch 15, slip stitched in the next stitch over, fastened off and weaved in ends.

Sew on nose and mouth to finish. I hot glued the button eyes on too.
